Shoni Schimmel Named USBWA All-American

Louisville senior Shoni Schimmel was named an All-American by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association, as selected by the entire association membership.
Six of the remaining Elite Eight teams are represented on the team, which is led by four players from the first-year American Athletic Conference. Overall, nine of the 10 All-Americans are playing in the regional finals over the next two days. Three players from the Atlantic Coast Conference are on the squad, including McBride, the league's player of the year in Notre Dame's first season in the league. The Big Ten, Big 12 and Pac-12 conferences each boast a selection.
This season Schimmel is leading the Cardinals in scoring with 17.1 points per game. She also leads the Cardinals in assists with 3.8 per game. This year she became the second player in school history to score 2,000 career points along with former standout Angel McCoughtry. She currently ranks second on Louisville's all-time scoring list with 2,143 points. Schimmel also has dished out 596 assists and pulled down 547 rebounds.
Schimmel was named a second team All-American by ESPNW. She was also a WBCA All-Region I selection. Schimmel was named a first team All-American Athletic Conference and earned all-tournament honors. She was also named a Naismith semifinalist and named to the Wooden ballot.
