LOUISVILLE TEAM NOTES
Tuesday marked Louisville's first appearance in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, a series of 14 games played on Dec. 1-3 at campus sites on various ESPN networks.
Louisville extended its home winning streak against non-conference foes to 31 games dating back to December 2011.
Tuesday's game was the fifth of six straight for Louisville at the KFC Yum! Center, where they moved to 71-9 all-time.
Louisville has won three straight against Ohio State and improved to 5-4 all-time with Tuesday's win in the first matchup between the two programs since 2003.
Cardinals' head coach Rick Pitino improved to 5-0 all-time against Ohio State, including 3-0 with Louisville.
Louisville improved to 2-0 against Big Ten opponents (season-opening win versus Minnesota) this season and is 38-37 all-time against current members of the conference. The Cardinals will play their third and final Big Ten foe on Dec. 9 when they face Indiana at the Jimmy V Classic in New York.
Louisville to 6-0 overall for the first time since opening the 2011-12 season with an 11-0 mark.
The Cardinals improved to 5-0 this season when outrebounding their opponent after finishing with a 46-41 advantage on the glass on Tuesday night.
Louisville produced two runs of 8-0 or better on Tuesday -- 8-0 run over a span of 2:16 in the first half to increase a 7-5 lead to 15-5 and a 9-0 run over a span of 2:21 in the first half to increase a 20-10 advantage to 29-10. Overall, the Cardinals have created 16 runs of 8-0 or better this season.
The Cardinals had 15 assists on Tuesday marking the third time this season they have finished with 15 or more.
Louisville had 11 steals Tuesday, the fifth time this season they have reached 11 or more steals in a game.
Tuesday marked the third straight game in which Louisville has never trailed. The Cardinals' last deficit came at the 8:08 mark of the first half against Marshall (20-19) covering a span of148 minutes, 8 seconds of game action.
Holding Ohio State to a season-low 18 points during the first 20 minutes, Tuesday marked the 14th straight game and the 26th time in the last 27 games Louisville has held its opponents to 32 or fewer points in the first half.
The Cardinals have held opponents to 20 points or less in the first half seven times in the last 14 games dating back to last season.
The 18 points in the first half on Tuesday night for the Buckeyes was their lowest total in a half since scoring just 18 in the first 20 minutes against Minnesota on Feb. 22, 2014.
LOUISVILLE PLAYER NOTES
Senior Wayne Blackshear scored a game-high 22 points (one shy of his career-high of 23) making a season-high six field goals, including 4-of-8 from behind the three-point line.
Blackshear exceeded his previous season-high for points (13 vs. Savannah State) during the first half of Tuesday's game with 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting in the first 20 minutes.
Blackshear also surpassed his season-high for three-pointers made in a game during the opening half connecting on 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Twice this season he made two three-pointers in a game (Savannah State and Jacksonville State).
Tuesday marked the first time this season Blackshear has led the Cardinals in scoring.
Junior Montrezl Harrell scored 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field and pulled down 10 rebounds to earn his 14th career double-double, including his second straight this season.
Sophomore Terry Rozier dished out a season-high seven assists, one shy of his career high of eight last season.
After missing his first seven shots from the field, Rozier made three of his last four attempts all in the final four minutes of the game to finish with 11 points overall.
Rozier has scored 11 or more points in five of Louisville's six games this season. In the only game he didn't reach double figures in scoring, he had nine points (vs. Cleveland State).
Senior Chris Jones was the fourth and final Louisville player to reach double-figures in the scoring column finishing with 10 points after connecting on a season-high three three-pointers.
Freshman Anas Mahmoud more than doubled his minutes-played total for the season on Tuesday night seeing 24 minutes of action overall. Having played in four of the first five games this season, Mahmoud had played a combined total of just 21 minutes in those games.
Mahmoud finished with a career-high three points on 3-of-4 shooting from the free throw line and pulled down a career-best seven rebounds - four more than he had for the season entering the game.
Mahmoud added a career-best and game-high two blocked shots.
