LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's basketball team, following a week off for final exams, returns to action on Monday against Old Dominion in the KFC Yum! Center at 7 p.m.
The Dec. 15 contest will be broadcast on WKRD 790 AM in Louisville, with Matt Andrews (play-by-play) and Adrienne Johnson (analyst) on the call. Fans can watch the game on CardsTV, either through GoCards.com or the GoCards.com GameDay Live mobile application.
No. 10 Louisville last played on Dec. 7, when it fell to then-No. 13 Kentucky 77-68 at home. The loss brought an end to the Cardinals' eight-game winning streak. Louisville shot 51.7 percent in the first half and held a 13-point lead at the break.
Four of the Cardinals' starters finished with double-digit points, paced by Myisha Hines-Allen's 17 points. The freshman, who also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds, has reached double-digit points in each game this season. Senior Bria Smith had 15 points, and freshman Mariya Moore added 14.
Senior Sara Hammond, who was named to the Naismith Trophy preseason watch list last week, totaled 11 points against the Wildcats and became the 25th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points. Earlier this season, Hammond was selected to the John R. Wooden Award Preseason Top 30 and the Wade Watch list.
For the season, Hines-Allen has a team-best 15.4 scoring average that ranks 10th in the ACC, second among freshmen. She is second on the team with 5.3 rebounds per game. Moore is second in points (14.0) and one of three players with at least 20 steals this year. Hammond is averaging a team-high 6.4 rebounds.
Old Dominion comes into Monday's contest with a 5-2 record following back-to-back wins. Louisville is the Monarchs' third ACC opponent this season, with Old Dominion falling 82-66 to Duke on Nov. 20 and then beating Virginia Tech 69-62 on Nov. 25.
Last time out, the Monarchs beat VCU 66-44 on Dec. 5. Old Dominion shot just 33.3 percent from the field, but made 11 more free throws than the Rams and held a 49-39 advantage on the glass.
Jennie Simms scored a game-high 21 points in the victory, and Tiffany Minor connected on four 3-pointers en route to 16 points. Destinee Young pulled down 11 rebounds for Old Dominion.
Simms leads the team in scoring (16.9) and is second rebounding (6.9). Chelisa Painter is the team's only other double-digit scorer, averaging 11.0 points to go along with 6.4 rebounds. Young has a team-high 7.6 rebounds per game and also ranks first on the team with 14 blocks. As a team, Old Dominion ranks in the top 35 in personal fouls per game (No. 20, 14.9), blocked shots per game (No. 32, 5.3), scoring defense (No. 35, 55.0), and 3-point field goal defense (No. 35, 25.2).
The Monarchs, under the direction of fourth-year coach Karen Barefoot, return three starters from last year's team and were picked to finish sixth in Conference USA.
