LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's basketball team concludes its five-game homestand on Friday, playing host to Lafayette at 7 p.m. in the KFC Yum! Center.
The Nov. 28 contest will be broadcast on WKRD 790 AM in Louisville, with Matt Andrews (play-by-play) and Adrienne Johnson (analyst) on the call. Fans can watch the game on CardsTV, either through GoCards.com or the GoCards.com GameDay Live mobile application.
Louisville continued its hot start, improving to 5-0 following an 89-67 victory over in-state foe Western Kentucky on Tuesday. The Cardinals shot 52.1 percent for the game and dished out a season-best 24 assists. Defensively, Louisville registered its fifth game with at least double-digit steals, producing 10 against the Hilltoppers.
The show, though, belonged to Bria Smith. The senior logged the sixth triple-double in school history, with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. She became just the third player in Louisville history to achieve the feat - the last one coming from Angel McCoughtry on Dec. 10, 2008, when she totaled 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 steals against Hartford.
Heading into Friday's contest, Smith needs just two points to reach 1,000 for her career.
Sara Hammond produced her 15th career double-double, going for 16 points and 10 rebounds. Myisha Hines-Allen added 16 points, and Emmonnie Henderson came off the bench and contributed 14 points and four rebounds.
For the year, freshman Mariya Moore is pacing Louisville with 16.2 points, while Hines-Allen is averaging 13.4 points and 5.2 rebounds. Hammond boosted her numbers with the performance against Western Kentucky, now averaging 10.0 points and 7.8 rebounds.
Lafayette, which also played on Tuesday, moved its record to 3-1 after a 66-48 win at Rider. Collectively, the Leopards held Rider to just 30.9 percent from the field and held a 46-38 advantage on the board.
Four Lafayette players finished with double figures in points, including Maddie Peabody's game-high 16 points. The Louisville native shot 4-of-6 from 3-point range and added six rebounds and two steals. Jamie O'Hare totaled 12 points and eight rebounds in the winning effort.
Through four games, Emily Homan leads the team with 19.0 scoring average to go with 5.8 boards per game. O'Hare (13.8), Linnel Macklin (13.0), and Peabody (10.0) each are scoring in double figures.
As a team, Lafayette is forcing opponents into 16.8 turnovers per game while holding foes to just 8-of-50 (.160) from long range.
Lafayette and Louisville will be meeting for the first time in series history. The game, however, brings together former Kentucky High School All-Star teammates in Louisville's Sara Hammond and Lafayette's Peabody (Louisville, Ky.; Sacred Heart). The two played together during the spring of Hammond's senior season.
Lafayette returns three starters from last year's team that went 14-16, including an 8-10 mark in the Patriot League. Senior forward Homan, who earned all-conference second team honors last year, was named to the preseason all-Patriot League Team. She led the Leopards in scoring (13.7 points per game) and double-doubles (7).
