LOUISVILLE TEAM NOTES
Friday's contest was the Cardinals' second in the Global Sports Showcase, a five-team round robin event played at various campus sites.
Friday's game was also the second of six straight for Louisville at the KFC Yum! Center, where they improved to 68-9 all-time.
Louisville extended its home winning streak against non-conference foes to 28 games dating back to December 2011.
With Friday's victory, Louisville head coach Rick Pitino moved within two wins of reaching 700 collegiate wins during his Hall of Fame career (overall record of 698-245 in 30 seasons).
The Cardinals have won seven straight games against Marshall and are 11-5 all-time against the Thundering Herd, including an 8-0 mark at home.
Through its first three games this season, Louisville has produced six runs of 8-0 or better, including one on Friday night when they outscored Marshall 11-0 over a span of 2:34 midway through the first half.
The Cardinals have led by 13 or more points at halftime in each of their first three games, including the 14-point margin (41-27) on Friday night. It marks the first time since the 2010-11 season they have held double-digit halftime leads in each of their first three games.
Louisville was 0-for-10 on three-pointers in the first half on Friday marking the first time they have not connected for a three-pointer in a half since March 31, 2013 when they were 0-for-5 in the first half against Duke in the NCAA Championship regional final at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
The Cardinals finished the game 3-for-22 (13.6 percent) from behind the three-point line, their lowest percentage from behind the arc since making just 2-of-23 (8.7 percent) at Syracuse on March 3, 2012.
Louisville's 44 free throw attempts were a season-high and the most since going 41-of-46 from behind the free throw line at Rutgers on Jan. 4, 2014.
The Cardinals had a season-low seven turnovers, their fewest since finishing with just six against Houston on March 14, 2014 at the American Conference Tournament.
Louisville finished with a season-high 13 steals, one better than what they had against Jacksonville State on Nov. 17.
The Cardinals had a season-high six blocked shots on Friday.
Louisville improved to 151-9 in the last 14 seasons under the guidance of Pitino when scoring 80 or more points.
The Cardinals improved to 275-42 when holding an opponent to less than 70 points during the last 14 seasons.
LOUISVILLE PLAYER NOTES
Senior Chris Jones led five Cardinals scoring in double-figures on Friday night with a season-high 18 points. It was his highest scoring performance since finishing with 18 against Rutgers on March 13, 2014 in the American Conference Tournament.
Jones also matched a season-high with five assists on Friday.
Sophomore Terry Rozier added 17 points, his third straight game of 13 or more points to open the season.
Freshman Chinanu Onuaku earned his second straight double-double for the Cardinals scoring 10 points with 11 rebounds. On Monday, he had 12 points and 10 rebounds against Jacksonville State.
In his last two games, Onuaku is 10-for-10 from the field with 21 rebounds in 40 minutes of action.
Junior Montrezl Harrell finished with 12 points on Friday night marking his 15th straight game with 10 or more points.
Sophomore Mangok Mathiang pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds marking the second straight game he has finished with 10 or more rebounds. Last season, he had just one game with double-digit rebounds (10 vs. College of Charleston on Nov. 9, 2013).
Mathiang added a season-high three blocked shots, one shy of his career-high total set twice last season.
Senior Wayne Blackshear scored a season-high 16 points, his highest total since finishing with 16 points at USF on Jan. 22, 2014.
Blackshear also matched a career-high with four steals on Friday after finishing with zero steals in each of the first two games of the season.
Sophomore David Levitch scored a career-best six points making his first three-pointer of the season and connecting on a career-best three free throws.
