
Cross Country's Kibichiy, Kibet Ready for NCAA Championships

THE FIELD: The race will feature 31 teams and 38 individuals in both the men's and women's races. The top two teams from each of the nine regional championship races will compete, as well as 13 teams selected at-large. The 38 individuals were selected through an at-large selection process.
THE WEATHER: A chance of rain is expected on Saturday in Terre Haute, Ind., with a high of 52 degrees and a low of 43 degrees.
University of Louisville cross country athletes Edwin Kibichiy and Ernest Kibet are set to compete at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championship at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday, Nov. 22. The men's race will begin at approximately 1:00 p.m. after the women's race is complete.
The race, hosted by Indiana State University, will feature 31 teams and 38 individuals. Kibichiy and Kibet both earned at-large individual bids for their performances at the NCAA Southeast Regional. Kibichiy finished second with a career-best 10K time of 30:13.9, while Kibet finished third with a time of 30:16.4 last weekend to qualify for the NCAA Championship. Both earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors after their impressive performances.
Kibichiy started the season with a win at the Meijer Flyer 5K. The redshirt sophomore finished second at the Commodore Classic and fourth at the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic. In the Pre National Invitational, Kibichiy finished in 15th and finished sixth at the ACC Championships with a time of 23:26.7.
Kibet finished second in the Meijer Flyer 5K to begin the season. The junior finished third at the Commodore Classic and edged out Kibichiy by one second to finish third at the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic. In the Pre National Invitational, he finished in 24th and finished second at the ACC Championships behind a personal-best 8K time of 23:21.7.
A live webcast of the championships will be broadcast from noon until the conclusion of the awards ceremony on NCAA.com.
