Shoni Schimmel Named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week

Senior guard Shoni Schimmel was named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday. Schimmel helped lead the Cardinals to a 2-0 week with wins at Temple and against Cincinnati .
Schimmel finished the week averaging 18.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. In the Cards' win at Temple, Schimmel finished with 15 points, two rebounds and two assists. She played a crucial part in the victory, scoring six consecutive points to help the Cardinals close the first half on a 12-4 run. Schimmel had 10 points, nearly half of Louisville's output, during the squad's 21-4 run that spanned halftime and gave the Cardinals a 40-21 lead early in the second stanza. The senior finished the week with 21 points and six rebounds in a win over Cincinnati. She also made a season-high five 3-pointers and finished 5-for-6 from the charity stripe vs. the Bearcats.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Sunday, Jan. 12 at USF at 3:00 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPNU.
