Louisville won the toss and deferred to the second half. Kentucky elected to receive to open the game.
Under head coach Charlie Strong, Louisville is 11-3 in the month of September. The Cardinals went 5-0 in the month last year.
Louisville's record against nonconference opponents since the 2002 season moved to 45-18.
When scoring 20 points or more in a game under the direction of Charlie Strong, the Cardinals' record is 27-6. When holding opponents to 20 or fewer points, Louisville boasts a 17-3 mark under Strong.
The Cardinals moved to 12-14 all-time against Kentucky. The Cardinals tied the series at eight apiece when the game is played in Lexington.
Other records for the Cardinals: Louisville captured its 14th win against an opponent in the Southeastern Conference; Louisville is 81-68-5 against schools in Kentucky.
Louisville's defense held Kentucky to 0-for-13 on third-down conversions. It's the first time the Cardinals have stopped an opponent from converting a third down since 2002, when Duke was 0-for-15 on third downs on Sept. 7.
The combined six points is the lowest combined total in the first quarter for this series since Aug. 31, 2008, when both teams failed to score in first.
Running back Michael Dyer earned his first start since getting the nod when he was at Auburn against Alabama on Nov. 26, 2011. He finished the game with 62 yards on 11 carries, with a long of 16.
Marcus Smith stripped Kentucky quarterback Jalen Whitlow in the first quarter for his fifth career forced fumble. He then secured possession for his first career fumble recovery.
DeVante Parker's 13-yard touchdown marks the ninth-consecutive game in which Parker has scored. It is his 12th touchdown catch in the last nine games.
Preston Brown recovered the ball following a poor quarterback-running back exchange, marking his first career fumble recovery.
Senorise Perry registered his first rushing touchdown of the game on the opening play of the second half on a one-yard rush. He later scored on a 36-yard rush, marking his second touchdown of the day and 15th of his career. He tallied 100 yards for the game on the ground, marking his fourth career 100-yard performance and second against the Wildcats.
Damian Copeland registered a career long 47-yard reception. He finished with a team-best 81 yards on three catches.
It's the third-consecutive game the Cardinals have opened the second half with a score (2 TDs, 1 FG).
Charles Gaines recorded his first career pick in the third quarter, deep in Louisville's territory. It's the Louisville defense's third interception of the year.
Kentucky's Joe Mansour converted on a 37-yard field goal with 2:23 left in the first quarter, marking the first points the Cardinals' defense has allowed this season in the first.
The UofL offense finished the day with 492 yards of total offense. The last time Louisville's offense reached 400 yards was against Eastern Kentucky (Sept. 7, 2013), when the Cardinals reached 475.
Hakeem Smith made his team leading 41st-consecutive start. Gerod Holliman earned his first career start.
Jarrett Davis made his first appearance of the year in the first quarter.
Both of Louisville's touchdown drives in the second half went for more than 80 yards. The Cardinals scored on the opening possession after driving 83 yards on nine plays and then mirrored the distance, going six plays for 83 yards.
Teddy Bridgewater Notes:
- In three games versus Kentucky, Bridgewater is 45-of-67 (67.2 percent) for 589 yards and three touchdowns.
- He connected with seven different receivers on the day, five of whom had multiple receptions.
- He has registered at least 100-passing yards in his last 10-consecutive games, and 26 of his last 27 contests.
- He has thrown touchdown passes in 15-consecutive games.
John Wallace went 2-for-3 on field goals, making him 5-for-6 on the year. He connected on a 36-yard field goal in the first quarter and then a 21-yard field goal in the third quarter, but was blocked on a 27-yarder in the fourth, making him 19-of-20 from inside 40 yards in his career.
Lorenzo Mauldin had his second-consecutive solid performance in the win over Kentucky. He had four tackles, two of which were sacks, and a forced fumble.
