LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville men's basketball head coach Rick Pitino took part in a teleconference on Monday that involved the head coaches of each of the institutions participating in the 2013 NCAA Final Four.
Louisville (33-5) faces ninth-seeded Wichita State on Saturday, April 6, at 6:09 p.m. in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Ga. The contest will be aired on CBS, with Jim Nantz (play-by-play), Clark Kellogg (analyst), Steve Kerr (analyst), and Tracy Wolfson on the broadcast. Louisville's Paul Rogers (play-by-play) and Bob Valvano (analyst) will be calling the game on WHAS 840 AM.
The Cardinals tied a school record with 33 wins after defeating Duke 85-63 on Sunday in the NCAA Midwest Regional championship in Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind. Midwest Regional MVP Russ Smith had a game-high 23 points on 7-of-14 shooting and was one of four Louisville players to finish with double-digit points. Gorgui Dieng had 14 points and 11 rebounds in the win. Mason Plumlee had 17 points to lead Duke, which shot just 36.5 percent from the field.
Wichita State head coach Gregg Marshall recorded its school-record 30th victory of the year after upsetting No. 2-seed Ohio State 70-66. The Shockers, who are making their first Final Four appearance since 1965, were led by regional MVP Malcolm Armstead's 14 points and seven rebounds. Cleanthony Early and Fred VanVleet each had 12 in the win. Ohio State's Deshaun Thomas had a game-high 23 points, but the Buckeyes shot just 31.1 percent from the floor and managed just 22 points in the first half.
