
Connell Named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week

University of Louisville junior Caralisa Connell was named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week on March 25, marking the second time this season she has earned the honor. Junior Taner Fowler was selected to the weekly honor roll.
Connell (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) went 2-0 for the Cardinals with a 1.54 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 22.2 innings pitched. She threw two complete games including a one run, three-hit performance in a 5-1 win against No. 1/1 Oklahoma. During the week, she held opponents to a .171 batting average.
Fowler (Morganfield, Ky.) batted .455 (5 for 11) with three doubles and a home run. She scored three runs and drove in six, including two RBIs in the 5-1 win over the top-ranked Sooners. Fowler had at least one hit in every game and posted a 1.000 slugging percentage.
No. 11/11 Louisville (26-5) will open BIG EAST Conference play with a three-game series against Syracuse this weekend at Ulmer Stadium. The teams will meet in a doubleheader at 2 p.m. on Friday and a single game at 12 p.m. Saturday.
The first game of Friday's doubleheader will be televised live on WHAS 11.2, Insight channel 432, Comcast 207. Brian U'Sellis will handle play-by-play duties while Patty Norton will provide analysis.
