INDIVIDUAL NOTES
Russ Smith had 18 points in the first half, marking Louisville's second-highest individual point total in an opening period this season. Smith scored 19 against Missouri-Kansas City on Dec. 8, 2012.
Smith continues to improve his NCAA Tournament-best point total, finishing with 27 points in the victory. His previous best was 23 on Thursday's NCAA second-round game in the win over North Carolina A&T.
Smith has registered consecutive 20-point performances in the NCAA second and third rounds. The last Louisville player to accomplish the feat was Francisco Garcia in the 2005 NCAA Tournament, as he tallied 27 against Louisiana Lafayette, 21 against Georgia Tech, and 23 against Washington.
Smith's 27 points give him 664 for the season. That total moved him to fifth on the single-season charts, as he passed West Unseld (1967-68; 645 points) and Jim Price (1971-72; 652 points).
Smith collected two steals in the victory over Colorado State, giving him 10 in NCAA Tournament play this season and 17 for his NCAA Tournament career. The single-season total ties him for second most with Andre McGee (2008) and Tick Rogers (1996) and puts him one behind Lancaster Gordon's 1983 total of 11. Smith's career total ties him for fourth most with Milt Wagner and Tick Rogers. Charles Jones holds the career lead with 24.
Dieng swatted one shot in the game to give him 70 for the season. Despite playing in just 29 games this year, his total is good enough for ninth on the single-season charts. He moved past Felton Spencer, who had 69 blocks in the 1989-90 season.
Peyton Siva now has 44 career assists in NCAA Tournament play. That total ties him with DeJuan Wheat for third all-time on Louisville's charts. He trails Milt Wagner (69) and Phillip Bond (49) for first and second, respectively.
Siva played in his 140th career game, a total that is tied with Edgar Sosa (2006-10) and Terrence Williams (2006-10) for fifth all-time, and had five assists and two steals. For the season, he has 213 assists, which ranks second on the single-season charts. The senior now has 82 steals on the season, two shy of Alvin Sims' sixth-place total of 84 that was achieved during the 1995-96 season.
