Temple won the toss and deferred until the second half.
Senior wide receiver Jarrett Davis and senior linebacker George Durant were the Cardinals' game captains.
The Cardinals and Owls met for the seventh meeting in series history, with Louisville holding a 4-3 advantage. Louisville has won the last four meetings. Temple won the first three games in the series. When playing in Louisville, the Cardinals own a 2-2 mark against the Owls.
With the win:
- Louisville is 5-0 for the third time in the last 11 seasons and just the sixth time since 1946. It is the second-consecutive year under Strong the Cardinals have started 5-0.
- Charlie Strong registered his 30th career victory with the decision, fourth most all-time.
- The Cardinals have won their last four games away from home, dating back to last season's victory over Rutgers on Nov. 29.
- Louisville now has won 16 of its last 18 games.
- It marked the Cardinals' first victory as a member of the American Athletic Conference.
Louisville has posted double-digit points in the first quarter in four of its five games this year.

When scoring 20 points or more in a game under the direction of Charlie Strong, the Cardinals' record is 29-6. When holding opponents to 20 or fewer points, Louisville boasts an 19-3 mark under Strong.
By holding Temple scoreless in the first half, the Cardinals' defense has allowed just three points through the first two quarters of the team's five games.
The Cardinals' defense tied a season high with four sacks.
The Cardinals scored touchdown on the game's opening drive for the fourth time in five games, marching 79 yards on 11 plays.
Of Louisville's 36 scoring drives this year, Louisville has scored on less than 10 plays on 30 occasions. Only seven of those 30 plays have resulted in field goals.
Louisville continued its success in the red zone, going a perfect 5-for-5 in scoring territory. The Cardinals are now 25-for-26 in red zone scores.
The Cardinals' defense has limited opponents on the ground, holding them to 51 yards through the last two games. Temple accumulated 51 yards, and FIU was held to zero yards rushing.
Tight end Gerald Christian posted his third career touchdown reception on a one-yard catch on the opening drive of the game. He finished the game with three catches for 30 yards.
Before Temple's touchdown with less than a minute remaining, the Cardinals had held their opponents scoreless through seven-consecutive quarters.
DeVante Parker left the game in the first quarter, snapping his 10-game streak of touchdown receptions.
Eli Rogers caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Teddy Bridgewater, marking Rogers' seventh career touchdown catch. During the game, he registered his 100th career reception and he finished with a game-high five catches for 73 yards.

- He finished with ninth career 300-yard passing game after tossing for 341 yards in the victory.
- He connected with 10 different receivers on the day, seven of whom had multiple receptions.
- He has registered at least 100-passing yards in his last 12-consecutive games, and 28 of his last 29 contests.
- He has thrown touchdown passes in 17-consecutive games, tying Dave Ragone, who had 17-consecutive games from the end of 2001 (last nine games) to the start of 2002 (first eight).

- Recent streaks: Chris Redman registered 14-straight games with touchdown passes. Brian Brohm threw a touchdown pass in every game in 2007 for a 12-game streak.
Louisville's offense continues to make quick work on the field, scoring on 10 plays or less 34 times this season. Of those 34 times, 30 of those scores have been touchdowns.
Keith Brown made his first start of the season at linebacker, marking his first start since a loss at Syracuse last season.
Hakeem Smith started his 43rd consecutive game at safety, while teammate Calvin Pryor made his 25th consecutive start. Preston Brown started for the 23rd-straight game.
Nick Dawson recorded his first career sack in the first quarter on a play in the Temple end zone.
