Softball Set for Final Fall Scrimmages this Weekend

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville softball team will wrap up fall play Oct. 5-6 at Bellarmine University. The Cards will face Ball State Saturday at 1 p.m. and Wallace State Sunday at 1 p.m.
Last weekend, UofL swept all four scrimmages, beating Bellarmine 8-0 and Eastern Kentucky 8-1 on Saturday. On Sunday, the Cards defeated Bellarmine 5-3 and Tennessee State 5-0.
Junior transfer Brittany Duncan led the Cardinals offensively on the weekend with a .700 batting average (7 for 10) with a home run, two doubles and nine RBIs. Senior Katie Keller batted .556 with a home run, a double and four RBIs. Senior Caralisa Connell struck out 11 batters in 70 innings and did not allow a run. Senior Rachel LeCoq also tossed 8.0 shutout innings.
Louisville finished the 2013 season with a 47-13 overall record after earning its tenth consecutive NCAA appearance and being selected the overall No. 15 seed for the second straight year. The Cardinals were No. 19 in the final ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate poll and No. 23 in the final USA Today/NFCA coaches' poll.
The Cardinals return eight letterwinners from that team, including 2013 All-America selection Katie Keller, All-BIG EAST team members: Whitney Arion, Caralisa Connell, Hannah Kiyohara, Rachel LeCoq and Maggie Ruckenbrod; and 2012 All-America selection Taner Fowler. Louisville also welcomes nine newcomers to the 2013-14 squad.
