LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville football team is enjoying the week off after a dominating 34-3 win over South Florida on Oct. 26.
The victory put the Cardinals back on the right track at 7-1 overall, 3-1 in the American Athletic Conference, and helped them rebound after the stinging loss to UCF on Oct. 18.
"It was great to see us bounce back," defensive coordinator Vance Bedford said after Wednesday's practice. "We dragged around for three or four days after the loss to UCF. We told those guys not to let that game beat us twice. Let's get back to who we are. Let's play with some enthusiasm and have a lot of fun, fly around. That's what we saw on defense."
The Cardinals held the Bulls to just three points and 38 yards rushing in one of the most complete performances of the season. The Bulls totaled 133 yards of total offense and turned the football over twice.
Louisville remains high in the national rankings, standing second in scoring defense (10.6 points per game), second in total defense (244.5 yards per game), and second against the run (80.5 yards per game).
Earlier on Wednesday, senior defensive end Marcus Smith made an appearance on the Jim Rome Radio Show, marking the second appearance by a UofL defensive end this season. Junior Lorenzo Mauldin also appeared on the national show this season. Smith joined the Rome show and discussed how he moved from quarterback to one of the top defensive ends in the nation.
The Cardinals will be on the road next week when they face Connecticut on Nov. 8, at 8:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
