LOUISVILLE TEAM NOTES
- With Monday's win, Louisville holds an 8-5 lead in the all-time series with Pittsburgh. The Cardinals have won four straight overall in the series and have won four straight at home against the Panthers.
- After holding a 32-26 advantage at the half on Monday, the Cardinals improved to 14-0 this season when leading after 20 minutes.
- The Cardinals were 23-of-51 from the field on Monday, good for 45.1 percent and their highest percentage since making 29-of-58 (50 percent) against UConn on Jan. 14.
- With its 12-0 run in the first half (15:15 to 11:36), Louisville has produced 32 runs of 8-0 or better this season. Monday's 12-0 run took the Cardinals from a 9-6 deficit to an 18-9 lead. UofL never trailed again in Monday's game after the 12-0 spurt.
- Louisville improved to 228-41 during the last 12 seasons under the guidance of head coach Rick Pitino when holding its opponent to less than 70 points.
- The Cardinals improved to 5-2 this season when outrebounded by their opponent after the Panthers finished with a 35-33 advantage on the glass.
- The Panthers turned their rebounding edge into a 25-10 advantage in second chance points.
- UofL (13-for-17) finished with a13-3 advantage at the free throw line against Pitt (3-for-12) and ended a three-game stretch (all losses) of shooting a lower percentage from the line that its opponents.
- Ranked among the nation's best in steals at 11.4 per game entering Monday's action, the Cardinals finished with just seven against the Panthers, their second lowest total of the season. The game also halted a stretch of seven straight games where Louisville had earned 10 or more steals.
- Louisville used the starting lineup of Peyton Siva, Russ Smith, Gorgui Dieng, Chane Behanan and Luke Hancock for the first time this season. It marked just the second time in 21 games Wayne Blackshear, who missed the game with a shoulder injury, was not in the starting five.
- The Cardinals used only eight players in Monday's game, a season-low, including junior walk-on guard Michael Baffour, who saw game action for just the fourth time this season and the first time since the 79-55 win over FIU on Dec. 19.
LOUISVILLE PLAYER NOTES
- Junior guard Russ Smith led the Cardinals in scoring for the 13th time in 21 games after scoring a game-high 20 points on 7-for-15 shooting from the field.
- Smith was 3-for-7 on 3-point attempts marking the sixth time this season he has connected on three or more three-pointers.
- Junior center Gorgui Dieng added 14 points on 5-for-7 shooting from the field and 12 rebounds for his 16th career double-double and his fifth this season. Four of his five double-doubles this season have come against BIG EAST competition.
- Dieng has finished with 10 or more rebounds in six games this season.
- Dieng matched a season-high with five blocked shots marking the second time in four games he's reached that total.
- Dieng also added four assists, the third time this season and second time in the last four games he has dished out at least four assists.
- Senior guard Peyton Siva dished out a game-high 10 assists marking the fifth time this season has reached double-figures in assists.
- Siva added two steals to increase his career total to 209 and move within one of matching Terrence Williams (2005-09) for fifth on the Cardinals' all-time leaderboard. Darrell Griffith (1976-80) is Louisville's all-time steals leader with 230.
- Junior forward Chane Behanan scored 12 points on 5-for-8 shooting from the field marking just the second time in six games and the third time in eight BIG EAST games has reached double-figures in the scoring column.
- Freshman forward Montrezl Harrell provided the Cardinals another very efficient outing scoring eight points on 3-of-5 shooting from the field and pulling down five rebounds with one blocked shot in 11 minutes of action.
- Junior Luke Hancock made his second straight start and just his fourth of the season on Monday. He finished with five points, two rebounds, three steals, one assist and no turnovers in 28 minutes.
- Junior guard Tim Henderson played a season-high 14 minutes connecting for his third three-point basketball of the season and the first since he hit a pair against UMKC on Dec. 8.
