LOUISVILLE TEAM NOTES
- Despite Saturday's loss, Louisville holds a 13-7 advantage in the all-time series with Syracuse and the Cardinals have won seven of the last 10 against the Orange.
- The Cardinals dropped to 11-8 in their last 19 games against Associated Press ranked opponents, including 1-2 this season.
- Louisville lost at home for the first time this season and just the seventh time in 51 games all-time at the KFC Yum! Center for a .862 winning percentage.
- A KFC Yum! Center and school record crowd of 22,814 watched the Top 10 showdown on Saturday. The attendance total was four better than the previous record total of 22,810 for the Cardinals' 80-77 win over rival Kentucky earlier this season.
- Entering the week ranked second nationally in turnover margin at +7.5 per game, Louisville was +7 on Saturday (16-9).
- Including Saturday, the Cardinals have committed fewer turnovers than their opponent in 17 of 18 games this season.
- After entering the week ranked third in the nation in steals at 11.4 per game, Louisville finished with 12 on Saturday.
- Louisville has outscored its opponents' bench in 14 of 18 games this season, including Saturday when the Cardinals had an 18-16 advantage.
- Saturday's game marked just the second time this season Louisville has finished with only one player scoring in double-figures (Nov. 22 vs. Northern Iowa was the other).
- Syracuse finished with a 36-31 advantage on the glass marking just the sixth time this season Louisville has been outrebounded and the first time the Cardinals have lost when losing the rebounding battle.
- While the two teams were even with 24 made field goals each and seven made three-point baskets each, the Orange (15-of-20) had a 2-point edge at the free throw line over the Cardinals (13-for-20).
- Syracuse finished at 49 percent (24-for-49) from the field on Saturday, the third highest percentage allowed by Louisville this season.
- With its 70 points on Saturday, Syracuse became just the fourth team to reach the 70-point plateau against Louisville this season. The Cardinals are just 2-2 in those four games.
LOUISVILLE PLAYER NOTES
- Junior guard Russ Smith led the Cardinals in scoring with 25 points on 8-for-18 shooting from the field.
- Smith has scored 20 or more points in five of the Cardinals' last seven games and nine times overall this season.
- Smith, who was 7-for-7 at the free throw line on Saturday, led Louisville in scoring for the 11th time this season.
- After entering the week ranked 25th in the nation in steals at 2.4 per game, Smith had four on Saturday. It marked the sixth time this season Smith has finished with four or more steals in a game.
- Smith has a steal in 57 of his 73 career games as a Cardinal.
- With his six assists on Saturday, senior guard Peyton Siva gained sole possession of second-place on the Cardinals' career assist leaderboard with 551. He is 162 assists behind all-time leader Labradford Smith (1987-91) with 713.
- Saturday marked just the second time this season Siva has finished a game without a steal. He entered the game tied with Smith at 25th nationally in steals with 2.4 per contest.
- Siva finished the night with a season-low three points and made just one shot from the field for only the fourth time this season.
- Sophomore forward Chane Behanan reached double-figures in rebounds for the second time in three games and the fourth time this season as he finished with a game-high 11 rebounds on Saturday.
- Behanan matched a season- and career-high with four steals on Saturday.
- Junior center Gorgui Dieng had a season-high five blocked shots against the Orange to move into second-place on the Cardinals' career leaderboard with 211. He trails only the 374 career blocked shots by all-time leader Pervis Ellison (1985-89).
- Dieng has blocked a shot in 72 of his 81 career games as a Cardinal, including 52 games with multiple blocks (7 of 11 this season).
- Dieng also contributed with a career-high six assists on Saturday, one more than his previous best total of five against Samford earlier this season.
- With his eight rebounds on Saturday, Dieng surpassed the 600-rebound plateau for his career (603 overall).
