LOUISVILLE, Ky. - No. 15/13 Louisville(15-4, 3-2) caused havoc with Cincinnati's offense Friday night, forcing 31 turnovers in a 72-33 win in the KFC Yum! Center. Antonita Slaughter scored 13 points and Hammond 12 for Louisville, which held the Bearcats (8-9, 0-4) to 15 points in the first half and 18 in the second. Shoni Schimmel added 11 points and Megan Deines 10 for the Cardinals. Dayeesha Hollins scored 11 points for Cincinnati.
The Cardinals finished the first half shooting 50 percent from the field for a 31-15 halftime lead. Louisville turned up the defensive pressure in the second half and started to move the ball around for the open shot.
Louisville used a 17-0 run to take a 50-18 lead with 13:50 remaining in the game. During that stretch the Cards got hot from the 3-point line. Louisville hit six consecutive 3-point shots in a five minute span. Schimmel and Slaughter each hit two while Deines and Jude Schimmel each hit a trey.
The Cardinals continued to dominate play in the second half, building a 40-point lead (70-30) with 1:40 remaining. Nine Cardinals made at least one steal, with Slaughter and Hammond leading the way with four each. The Cardinals held the Bearcats to its lowest point total of the season, and it committed a season-high in turnovers for the second straight game.
Louisville finished the game shooting 48.1 percent from the field and 47.4 percent from behind the arc. The Cards held Cincinnati to just 34.3 percent shooting, including 10 percent from behind the arc. Louisville finished with a 32-26 rebounding advantage while scoring 30 points off UC's 31 turnovers.
The Cardinals will travel to Milwaukee on Tuesday, Jan. 22 for a BIG EAST road game against Marquette at 9:00 p.m. The game will be televised live on CBS Sports Network.
