LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville football head coach Charlie Strong and a selected student-athlete will participate in the first press conference of the fall campaign on Monday, Aug. 27, at noon at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.
Strong will address the media regarding the team's fall practice and the Cardinals' season opener against intrastate rival, Kentucky, on Sept. 2 at 3:30 p.m. at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. The last time the two teams squared off for the Governor's Cup was last season on Sept. 17 at Commonwealth Stadium, as Louisville claimed a 24-17 win.
QUICK NOTES
- Louisville is entering its 94th season in college football after first starting up the program in 1912. Consecutively, this is Louisville's 67th season on the gridiron.
- The Cardinals enter the season with one of the smallest senior classes in the country, with just 10 on scholarship. That total is tied for the ninth fewest nationally.
- The Cardinals have received much acclaim leading up to the 2012 campaign. Louisville was picked to win the BIG EAST in the conference's preseason media poll, receiving 24 of a possible 28 first-place votes and had 219 points in the preseason voting of media representatives. The last time the Cardinals were picked to win the league was in 2005.
- Just two weeks ago, the Associated Press released its top 25 poll and Louisville checked in at No. 25. The Cardinals, the only BIG EAST team in the poll, were last ranked by the AP in 2007. It also marks the first time the Cardinals were ranked in the preseason since they opened the 2007 season ranked 10th in the AP and 11th in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.
