
Harrell, USA Basketball U18 Team Win Gold Medal

SAO SEBASTIAO DO PARIASO, Brazil - University of Louisville incoming freshman forward Montrezl Harrell scored three points and grabbed a rebound for the USA Basketball U18 National Team in an 81-56 victory over Brazil on Wednesday as USA won the gold medal in the 2012 FIBA Americas U18 Championship.
The USA won all five of its games in the event, played June 16-20 in Sao Sebastiáo do Paraiso, Brazil. Harrell had 12 points and seven rebounds in a 110-59 victory over Mexico. He totaled seven points and eight rebounds in the opening game of the championship against the US Virgin Islands in a 105-42 win.
Harrell, a 6-7, 225-pound forward from Tarboro, N.C. who played last season at Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va., signed a financial aid agreement with UofL in June. He averaged 25.2 points, 13.6 rebounds and three blocks last season for Hargrave, which posted a 38-1 record and finished as the national prep runner-up.
