LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville defensive tackle Greg Scruggs was drafted in the seventh round by the Seattle Seahawks with the 232nd pick in the National Football League Draft on Saturday.
Scruggs is the fourth U of L player to be drafted in the first two sasons under head coach Charlie Strong. Johnny Patrick, Bilal Powell and Byron Stingily were taken in the draft last season.
Scruggs appeared in nine games in 2012, missing a couple of games due to injury. He recorded 19 total tackles, including six tackles for loss and four sacks.
Coming to Louisville out of St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, Scruggs played as a true freshman for the Cardinals. He went on to play in 42 career games, tallying 61 tackles and eight sacks as a three-year starter.
His best season came in 2009 when he started all 12 games, recorded 24 tackles and a pair of sacks.
"Tears of joy," Scruggs said when he heard the news in Cincinnati. "I was so happy. It means a lot to me because no one thought I could do it. It's a huge relief for me to be able to get drafted and it's huge motivation for me to keep going."
