Louisville - The University of Louisville football team put the pads on for the first time on Saturday morning in the last of the three open practices.
The third practice of the spring saw the Cardinals turn up the intensity with a full contact practice, which featured some big hits and hard running by the running backs.
The Cardinals were able to get back outside this morning after spending Friday indoors because of inclement weather. Under cool skies, the Cardinals worked out for just over two hours.
"We were able to hit some today," said head coach Charlie Strong. What was good, we were able to watch our guys play physical. We have to be a mentally and physically tough football team. It was more of a practice today. It all starts up front and they have to play physical. We expect them to play that way. We are still in the process of getting guys to play that well, but I was pleased with the intensity out there today."
Red-shirt freshman running back Corvin Lamb was the star of Saturday's practice, running hard and breaking tackles. He also showed an ability to catch the football out of the backfield. Junior Dominique Brown looks like he has added 10 pounds of pure bulk and was fun to watch barrel through the lines.
Senior linebacker Daniel Brown and junior linebacker Preston Brown give the Cardinals a pair of talented players on defensive. Sophomore Calvin Pryor recorded an interception in drills and is another big hitter at the back of the defense.
The Cardinals will take off Sunday before Strong closes down the practices on Monday afternoon.
