
Volleyball Sweeps Georgetown

Lola Arslanbekova had 21 kills, nine digs and three blocks to lead the University of Louisville to a 25-10, 25-18, 25-12 sweep of Georgetown in BIG EAST volleyball action Sunday at the KFC Yum! Center.
"We played great today," said U of L head coach Anne Kordes. "It was a great way to close out the regular season at the KFC Yum! Center. We are so appreciative of the opportunity to be able to play down here and it is so special for our team. I am so thankful to our administration and our fans for their support. Now we have to get ready for Marquette and Cincinnati next week."
U of L moves to 23-3 on the season and 12-1 in the league. The Cardinals hit a season-high .430 and registered six aces, led by Caitlin Welch's two. Emily Juhl added seven kills with Kaitlynn James chipped in eight kills. Georgetown was led b y Elizabeth Riggins' eight kills.
U of L took charge early in the first set when it blasted out of the gate to take an 18-5 lead. Lola Arslanbekova had 10 kills in the first set to equal the Hoya's 10 points in the 25-10 win. U of L hit .457 in the set to GU's .000 but the Hoyas outblocked the Cards 3-0.
In the second set, Georgetown dug in and managed to take the lead at 12-11 in the midst of a 6-1 run. The teams traded points and after tying at 13, U of L reeled off six unanswered points to go up 19-13. The Hoyas would get no closer as they fell 25-18. The Hoyas hit .379 in the set and had two more blocks. U of L hit .382 and Arslanbekova added seven kills to her total.
U of L used a 12-3 run in the third set to pull ahead 20-8 and then never looked back. The Cards hit .452 in the set and notched three blocks in the set.
U of L has two more conference matches with Marquette on Friday at 4:30 in Cardinal Arena and then a rematch with Cincinnati on Sunday at noon, also in Cardinal Arena. The BIG EAST Championship will be hosted by Marquette Nov. 16-18 in Milwaukee.
