LOUISVILLE, Ky.-University of Louisville defensive end Lorenzo Mauldin was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Mauldin made his second-straight start at defensive end, and played a major role in Louisville's 27-25 win over South Florida on Saturday.
A native of Atlanta, Ga., Mauldin helped the Cardinals remain one of the 11 unbeaten teams at 7-0 as the Cardinals also improved to 2-0 in BIG EAST play for just the second time. Mauldin had six tackles, including two sacks and three tackles for loss, to go with a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a quarterback hurry. His strip sack and fumble recovery came late in the first half and allowed Louisville to take a 14-3 lead into halftime.
In the last two games, Mauldin has registered 11 tackles and 2.5 sacks in wins over Pittsburgh and USF.
