
Women's Lacrosse Plays Host to No. 13 Vanderbilt

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's lacrosse team will face its second ranked opponent of the year, when it takes on 13th-ranked Vanderbilt in a nonconference game on Wednesday, March 30, at the U of L Lacrosse Stadium. First draw is set for 3 p.m.
The Cardinals (7-1, 1-0 BIG EAST) are coming off their first BIG EAST win of the season, defeating Cincinnati, 18-15, on March 27. Lianne Bobal registered four goals to lead the offense, which received scores from eight other individuals. Katie Oliverio and Liz Lovejoy each netted three scores, with Lovejoy also recorded six draw controls. Bergan Foley and Emily Dashiell posted two goals apiece in the win. Dashiell also had four draw controls and a team-best three caused turnovers, while Monica Negron had two caused turnovers.
For the first time this season, Louisville utilized all three goalkeepers. Ashley Herbst, who was credited with the win, made five saves in more than 35 minutes of action. Danielle Pawliw made her season debut, tallying a save, while Katie Zoeller spent nearly eight minutes in net.
In its last game, Vanderbilt (6-4) knocked off then-No. 7-ranked Stanford, 15-10, on March 27. Katherine Denkler led the charge, scoring five goals on 11 shots, while picking up a ground ball. Kendall Pittinger and Courtney Kirk registered three goals apiece in the victory, and Ally Carey had three caused turnovers. Chelsea Pasfield played all 60 minutes in goal, making five saves to get the win. The Commodores won the ground ball battle, 22-18, and were 13-for-17 in clears. Vanderbilt outscored Stanford, 8-4, in the second period and only trailed by one goal on three different occasions.
The Commodores are under the direction of Cathy Swezey, who's in her 14th season at the helm of the program. She has guided Vanderbilt to a 120-104 overall record, including trips to the NCAA Tournament the past three seasons. This year, Denkler leads the team in goals (23), while Kirk ranks first on the team in points (31). Carey, meanwhile, is first in ground balls (39) and draw controls (37).
