Louisville, Ky. - - For the second straight practice, the University of Louisville football team put on full pads and conducted another spirited and intense practice on the fourth day of the spring season.
Both sides of the football showed an ability to make plays on Monday afternoon on the practice fields. The defense put a lot of pressure on the quarterbacks, forcing the signal callers to make plays out of the pocket. Quarterbacks coach Shawn Watson has been pleased so far with the development of all three quarterbacks and thinks everyone has progressed well with what the staff is trying to do offensively.
The offensive side of the football also made a number of plays during seven periods of team. Quarterback Will Stein scrambled out of trouble a number of times for long runs, and also showded an ability to make big throws out of the pocket. Freshman Teddy Bridgewater continues to get better with each practice as he get more comfortable with the offense.
The Cardinals received good news on linebacker Brandon Golson, who went down in Saturday's practice. Golson suffered a sprained MCL and his status is unclear for the rest of the spring.
Louisville is thin at wide receiver this spring with injuries, but the play of tight ends Stephon Ball and Josh Chichester have been a pleasant surprise to the offense.
"I feel very good about our quarterback situation," said offensive coordinator Mike Sanford. "We are very inexperienced at that positio, but they are coming along and improving. We have to develop on the offensive line. We lost a number of starters so we have to continue to develop. The running back position is doing well. Victor Anderson is running hard and I was pleased with Senorise Perry in the scrimmage on Saturday."
The Cardinals are off Tuesday and will return to the practice field on Wednesday at 4:15 p.m.
