Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville held its annual Pro Day for the outgoing senior class in front of the NFL scouts at the Howard Schnellenberger Football Complex on Thursday afternoon.
A total of 27 teams were represented at Pro Day, including six running backs coaches who were there to work out former Louisville standout Bilal Powell, who rushed for 1,405 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2010. Powell, who played in the Senior Bowl and was a part of the NFL Scouting Combine, worked out in front of the scouts before injuring himself on his second attempt in the 40-yard dash.
The day consisted of the players testing in the vertical jump, broad jump, bench press, 40-yard dash, pro shuttle and the three-cone drill. The scouts closed the day by putting the players through position work.
Cornerback Johnny Patrick ran a solid 40-yard dash time and worked well in during his position work. Patrick, who led the Cardinals in interceptions with five last season, was also invited to the Senior Bowl, but didn't play because of an injury he suffered in practice. Patrick was pleased with his performance on Thursday.
"I was pleased with how I did today," said Patrick. "I ran a 4.46 today, which was better than I ran at the combine. I feel very confident in my ability and I look forward to seeing where I fall in the upcoming draft."
Louisville native Doug Beaumont also had a solid day in front of the scouts. Beaumont, who was never considered a speed guy, ran a sub 4.5 40-yard dash and made a number of solid catches during the position drills. Beaumont made a stellar over-the-shoulder catch on a 50-yard pass from Adam Froman.
"It was a pretty good day for me," said Beaumont. It was anxious and preparation. I knew since January what I needed to do to become draft eligible. I trained at Velocity for the last eight weeks and they did a great job of preparing me for today. I was very pleased with my performance."
Senior offensive tackle Byron Stingily might have had the best day. He weighed in at a solid 315 and ran a 4.86 in the 40-yard dash. He looked a lot bigger, putting up 225-pounds 28 times.
A total of 15 players from the 2010 team worked out on Thursday, including Chris Campa, Jon Dempsey and Abdul Kuyateh from the 2009 team.
