Louisville, Ky. - Louisville head coach Jeff Walz announced that Missouri guard Megan Deines and Arizona forward Cortnee Walton have signed national letters-of-intent to play for the University of Louisville next season.
Megan Deines, 6-1, Guard, Springfield, Mo., Glendale HS
"We are excited to have a versatile guard like Megan that has the ability to play all three guard positions. At 6-1, she is a rare commodity that allows a coach the luxury of playing different lineups to take advantage of mismatch opportunities. She is a pinpoint passer and has the penchant for making others around her better. Being a daughter of parents who both played professionally, Megan understands the nuances and particulars that allow a team to sustain excellence. She is a fierce competitor and confidence exudes from her. There is no doubt she will be a staple on the perimeter for our team."
Deines was named the Ozark Conference Player of the Year as a junior. As a junior, Deines averaged 20 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game. She was named a first-team Missouri All-State selection and first team All-Ozark selection last season. She was also named a Missouri Basketball Coaches Association Class 5 All-State selection and also earned first team all-conference honors.
Cortnee Walton, 6-3, Forward, Surprise, Ariz., St. Mary's HS
"Cortnee comes to us from an extremely successful high school team and has proven herself to be a champion on and off the floor," said Walz. "She is a tireless worker and will provide a great presence for us in the paint. She is not afraid of contact and embraces the challenges of physical play in the post. Her ability to pursue the basketball and rebound will no doubt help shore up our inside presence. Cortnee also brings to us immediate leadership abilities and has a willingness to learn and be coached. She knows no other avenue than success and will continue to elevate our program in the years to come."
Walton is ranked 53rd overall by Hoop Gurlz and ranked 11th in her position. Last season she helped lead St. Mary's High School (Phoenix, Ariz.) to a 28-2 record and a Class 5A Division I state title. She played club basketball for the Arizona Warriors. She earned honorable mention all-state honors as a junior.
