
Women's Basketball Opens Season at Missouri State on Sunday

The ninth ranked Louisville women's basketball team will open the 2011-12 season at Missouri State on Sunday, Nov. 13 at 3:05 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on WKRD 790 AM and online at UofLSports.com.
Louisville returns four starters from last season's squad that advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 with an overall record of 22-13. The Cardinals are ranked ninth in the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today Coaches polls, the highest preseason ranking. Senior Monique Reid and sophomore Shoni Schimmel both earned preseason All-BIG EAST first team honors. Last season Reid led the Cardinals in scoring for the second straight year with 15.5 points per game. She also led the team in rebounding with 6.1 boards per game. She is currently ranked 10th on the Cardinals' all-time scoring list with 1,345 career points. Schimmel was named a Basketball Times First Team Freshman All-American last season. She finished the season ranked second on the team in scoring with 15.1 points per game. She also led the team in assists with 4.9 per game and ranked second in the league.
Missouri State returns four starters and 10 letterwinners from last year's team that finished tied for second in the Missouri Valley Conference with an overall record of 24-11. The Lady Bears enter the 2011-12 season picked to win the MVC in the preseason poll. Leading the way Missouri State will be preseason all-conference choices Casey Garrison and Christiana Shorter. Garrison enters her senior season ranked fifth in MSU history in scoring (1,770) and second in scoring average (18.1). Shorter was a second-team All-MVC pick and ranked second in the MVC with an 8.2 rebounding average and 12th with a 12.4 scoring average.
Sunday's game will be the first meeting between the two teams.
