
Rich Benson Joins Men's Tennis Staff

University of Louisville men's tennis coach Rex Ecarma has announced that Rich Benson will join the 2010-11 staff as a volunteer assistant. His duties will include assisting in practice and matches.
"As we prepare for what we hope is a very special season, I wanted to add a volunteer assistant coach" said U of L head coach. "Rich Benson, who was an All-American at the University of Kentucky and a former ATP tour doubles player for several years, fits our needs. I believe the veteran players will gain from his experience and the new players will enjoy practicing with him on the court. I know Rich well, he has character, class and integrity."
Benson played professionally from 1990-94 and was a touring professional on the Satellite Challenger and reached the ATP Tour Grand Prix Level. He won the 1994 Wolfsburg Germany Challenger Doubles championship as well as several satellite doubles titles while earning an ATP Tour world doubles ranking of 138.
Benson played for the University of Kentucky from 1985-89 and was a three-time doubles All-American and advanced to the NCAA Outdoors doubles semifinals, and NCAA Outdoor Clay Court Singles semifinals in 1987. He also represented the United States Collegiate Tennis Team at the 1998 World University Games.
