LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville men's basketball coach Rick Pitino made a positive impression on a group of our nation's troops last week.
Pitino joined Brig. Gen. Jeffrey Foley in greeting about 300 U.S. Army troops of the 35th Signal Brigade upon their return from an 11-month tour in Iraq. He boarded the plane in Augusta, Ga. and spoke to the group, then shook their hands when they exited the plane. Pitino had been evaluating student-athletes at the nearby Nike Peach Jam. The troops were returning to Fort Gordon.
"Coach Pitino is an awesome person for taking time out of his busy schedule to talk and shake hands with our returning soldiers," said Cpt. Nathan Leppert, a member of the Signal Corps and a U of L graduate. "I am proud of his caring and patriotism and that he represents my University and the city of Louisville."
