The University of Louisville softball team is headed to Knoxville, Tenn. to face Virginia (33-21)in the first game of NCAA regional play Friday at 4 p.m. Host 15th-ranked Tennessee (42-13) will play Ball State (43-14)in the other first round game.
The winner of the Knoxville Regional will face the winner of the Ann Arbor Regional which includes host Michigan, Notre Dame, Illinois State and Wright State.
About Louisville
The Cardinals enter the tournament with a 39-17 overall record while coming off a runner-up showing at the BIG EAST Conference Championship. U of L is led offensively by All-American senior catcher Melissa Roth who is batting .398 with 16 home runs, 57 runs and 47 RBI. Freshman Alicja Wolny follows at .321 with 20 doubles and 27 RBI.Junior Chelsea Bemis - the 2010 BIG EAST Player of is tied for third on the team with a .311 average, 12 home runs and 44 RBI. Freshman Jordan Trimble is tied with Bemis with a .311 average, four home runs and 35 RBI.
Sophomore Tori Collins (17-4) carries a 2.36 ERA and 147 strikeouts in 151.0 innings pitched. Senior Kristen Wadwell carries an 18-11 record and a 2.74ERA. The All-American has 158 strikeouts in 186.1 innings of work.
This will mark U of L's seventh consecutive NCAA appearance and the third time Louisville has traveled to Knoxville for NCAA regional play. In 2006 Cardinals advanced to the regional finals and were also sent there in 2008 when they went 1-2.

Last meeting: Feb. 15, 2009 - UL won 6-5 in the UNLV Desert Classic Scouting the Cavaliers: Virginia (33-21) posted a 13-7 record for a second place finish in the Atlantic Coast Conference en route to its first NCAA tournament appearance.
The Cavaliers are led offensively by Sarah Tacke, who carries a .362 average with 10 home runs and 42 RBI. Nicole Koren follows at .308 with 12 home runs, 24 runs scored and 31RBI. Melanie Mitchell (26-16) holds a 2.67 ERA with 280 strikcouts in 267.2 innings of work.

Last meeting: May 17, 2008 - UT won 8-1 to eliminate the Cardinals from the NCAA tournament in Knoxville.
Scouting the Lady Vols: No. 15 Tennessee (42-13) is hosting the NCAA Regionals for the sixth consecutive year and is making its eighth appearance. The Lady Vols have been to three Women's College World Series.
This season, UT posted a 17-8 record in Southeastern Conference play and earned the No. 5 seed in the league tournament, where the Lady Vols fell to No. 3 Alabama 4-3 in the semifinals.
The Lady Vols are led offensively by Raven Chavanne who is batting a solid .458 on the season with 57 runs, 33 stolen bases and 24 RBI. Kat Dotson follows at .404 with 50 runs 36 RBI and 29 steals. Ivy Renfroe (26-4) posts a 2.44 ERA with 182 strikeouts in 189.0 innings. Cat Hosfield (15-8) holds a a 3.17 ERA with 122 Ks in 154.2 innings.

Last meeting: Feb. 25, 2005 - Louisville won 5-1 at Ulmer Stadium.
Scouting the Cardinals: Ball State (43-14) posted a 21-5 record in the Mid-American Conference and clinched the regular season and tournament championship, earning the program's first NCAA tournament bid.
The Cardinals are led by MAC Player of the Year Jessie Ware who is hitting .416 average with 64 runs, 16 triples, five home runs and 24 stolen bases. Lisa Rozanski follows at .350 with 46 runs and 36 stolen bases. Elizabeth Milian (32-5) carries a 1.94 ERA with 299 Ks in 256.2 innings.
