
Women's Basketball Begins BIG EAST Tournament Play Against Pitt

Hartford, Conn. - The University of Louisville women's basketball team will kick off the BIG EAST Tournament on Friday, March 5 against Pittsburgh at Noon. The game will also be broadcast live on WKRD and at www.uoflsports.com. Jim Kelch will handle the play-by-play duties while Adrienne Johnson will add the color commentary.
The Cardinals enter the game with an overall record of 13-16 and a BIG EAST record of 5-11, earning the 13th seed. The Cardinals are led by a pair of sophomores in Becky Burke and Monique Reid. Reid leads the Cardinals in scoring and rebounding with 17.4 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. Burke is second on the team in scoring with 14.6 points per game. Burke leads the team from behind the arc, connecting on 69 3-pointers this season.
Pittsburgh enters the game with an overall record of 16-13 and a BIG EAST record of 5-11, earning the 12th seed in the tournament. Pittsburgh has three players averaging double figures. Junior guard Jania Sims leads the team in scoring with 13.1 points per game. Taneisha Harrison is the second leading scorer with 13.0 points per game. Shayla Scott rounds out the leading scorers with 10.6 points per game.
Louisville leads the overall series 4-2 against Pittsburgh. The Cardinals fell to the Panthers 72-69 in the regular season matchup. The game will be broadcast live on BE.tv which is available at www.bigeast.org.
