Baton Rouge, La. - The University of Louisville's men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2010 outdoor season on Friday at the LSU Relays hosted by Louisiana State University.

The Cardinals had 11 top-five finishes and broke the school record in the men's 4X800m relay.

Highlighting the first day for the women was junior D'Ana McCarty. McCarty won the shot put with a toss of 51-01.75 (15.59m). McCarty, who is coming off back-to-back national championships in the indoor weight throw, is not skipping a beat for the Cardinals.

Following McCarty in the shot put was sophomore Khadija Abdullah. Abdullah finished second with a throw of 50-07.25 (15.42m) while freshman Amashi Kendall finished third with a toss of 48-06.25 (14.79m).

Freshman Michelle Theophille finished second in the high jump clearing a height of 5-09.75 (1.77m). Senior Brittany Hotaling placed third clearing 5-05.75 (1.67m).

On the men's side, the 4X800m relay team broke a 34-year old school record with a time of 7:40.91. The men's team, made up of Chris Wolfe, Evan Hibbs, Gordon Dooley and Howard Shepard III, broke the previous school record which was set at the Florida Relays on March 26, 1976.

Other highlights for the men on the first day were junior Neil Angermeier placing second in the high jump clearing a height of 6-08.00 (2.03m) and sophomore Jordan Frazier qualifying for the finals of the 400-meter hurdles by placing sixth with a time of 53.70.

The meet is scheduled to begin at noon (CST) on Saturday with the women's discuss and commence at 4:55 p.m. tentatively with the men's 400-meter relay.
