HONOLULU - - The No. 12 University of Louisville men's tennis team defeated No. 57 Hawai`i Wednesday at the UH Tennis Complex. The Cards improve to 14-3, while the Rainbow Warriors drop to 7-6 on the year.
Louisville started the day by taking the doubles with wins on two of three courts. Hawai'i struck early at No. 3 doubles as the duo of Jeremy Tweedt and Leo Rosenberg picked up an 8-3 win over Viktor Maksimcuk and Andrew Carter. Austen Childs and Chidi Gabriel toppped Dennis Laiola Daniel Llarenas 8-6 at No. 2. The 35th ranked duo of Alejandro Calligari and Simon Childs defeated Philipp Eberhard and Andreas Weber 8-3 at the top seed to clinch the point.
The Cardinals took four out of six courts in singles to get the win. Robert Hall's 6-4, 6-2 victory over Eberhard put Louisville up 2-0. Hawai'i's Rosenberg topped Maksimcuk 7-6, 6-2 to pull the Warriors within 2-1. Carter defeated Dmytro Kovaloy 6-3, 6-3 at the six spot. Austen Childs, ranked No. 31 in the ITA singles rankings, clinched the win with a 6-0, 7-6 decision over No. 105 Lajola. Calligari beat Tweedt 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 at the four-spot. Hawai'i's Weber closed the match with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4.
Louisville will travel to Bryan, Texas to face No. 18 Texas A&M on March 21.
