The No. 15/16 University of Louisville softball team will head to Charleston, S.C. to compete in the Charleston Southern Tournament Feb. 19-20 and at the College of Charleston on Feb. 21. The Cards open the tournament on Feb. 19 against St. John's in a non-conference game and will follow with a matchup against host Charleston Southern. Saturday's slate includes Youngstown State and another game against Charleston Southern. Louisville will close the weekend at the College of Charleston.
Louisville opened the season with an impressive 4-1 performance at the Houston Hobby Marriott Classic. The Cards defeated Kansas 10-2, No. 15/17 Baylor 4-1 and 6-5 and Houston 7-2 before falling to No. 14/16 Ohio State on the final day of the tournament.
The Cards are led offensively by senior catcher Melissa Roth who batting .533 with two doubles, seven runs and three RBI. Senior Brittany York follows with a .429 average, three doubles and seven RBI. Freshman Jordan Trimble rounds out the top three with a .333 average, two runs and two RBI.
Senior Kristen Wadwell (2-0) carries a 3.20 ERA with 12 strikeouts in 15.1 innings. Soophomore Tori Collins (1-1) holds a 1.50 ERA with 14 Ks in 9.1 innings. of work. Freshman Chelsea Leonard (1-0) has a 1.68 ERA with nine strikeouts in 8.1 innings of work.
