LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville men's basketball coach Rick Pitino and senior forward George Goode met with the media Tuesday afternoon at the Yum! Center to preview Wednesday's game against San Francisco on Dec. 8 at the KFC Yum! Center. Start time is set for 7:07 p.m., with the game being televised on WHAS-TV (Wazoo Sports will carry the game statewide).
Fresh off a 97-70 victory over South Alabama on Dec. 4, the Cardinals improved to 6-0 this season and earned the No. 24 spot in this week's Associated Press Top 25 Poll. It was the second-straight game Louisville had five players finish in double figures, as Mike Marra tallied a team-high 23 points on 8-of-18 shooting from the field, including five buckets from beyond the arc. Rakeem Buckles posted his second double-double of the season with 12 points and 14 boards. As a team, the Cardinals shot 51.4 percent from the field and forced 23 South Alabama turnovers.
San Francisco enters Wednesday's contest with a 3-4 overall mark, having dropped three of its last four games. Last time out, USF fell to Cal State Bakersfield, 77-69, on Dec. 4. Despite the loss, five players finished in double figures, led by Cody Doolin's 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Angelo Caloiaro had 10 points and 11 boards, all of which came on the defensive end.
The Dons are under the guidance of Rex Walters, who is in his third year at the helm of the program. Walters guided the team to a 12-18 overall mark last season, going 7-7 for a fourth-place finish in the West Coast Conference.
