ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Even though rain delayed plans, the University of Louisville football team had a two-hour practice session on a cloudy Saturday afternoon at Tampa Jesuit High School in preparation for the Beef `O' Brady's Bowl against Southern Miss on Tuesday, Dec. 21.
The Cardinals, wearing just chest and shoulder pads, opened their third practice with a light a stretch. The team then focused on special teams, as Chris Philpott worked on field goals from different spots on the pitch. Once the drill was over, the team split off into its respective groups, with special teams' members focusing on punt coverage. The quarterbacks and receivers worked on drills led by their respective coaches, and the offensive and defensive linemen, on opposite ends of the field, worked within their groups.
Following practice, coach Charlie Strong and selected players met with the media to discuss preparations and their thoughts about the nationally televised game at Tropicana Field - home of Major League Baseball's Tampa Rays.
Tonight, the Cardinals will take part in the Beef 'O' Brady's Official Welcome Party at 9 p.m.at Jannus Live. Fans are encouraged to come out and meet the team and coaching staff.
Louisville will take part in its final practice on Sunday, Dec. 19, as the team will be idle Monday before Tuesday's contest.
