LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville head coach Rick Pitino and sophomore guard Peyton Siva met with the media Tuesday afternoon at the Yum! Center to preview Wednesday's contest against Florida International on Dec. 1 at the KFC Yum! Center. Start time is set for 7:02 p.m. ET, and the game will be broadcast on ESPN3.com.
The Cardinals remained undefeated at 4-0 with their 80-66 win over Marshall on Nov. 27. It is the third time in four games Louisville has posted more than 80 points. Four players scored in double figures, with Rakeem Buckles, Mike Marra and Peyton Siva all tallying 12 points apiece. Buckles had a team-high seven boards. Louisville received nearly half of its points from the bench, which recorded 30 points in the win. Marshall's DeAndre Kane finished the contest with a game-high 25 points on 10-of-18 shooting.
Florida International enters the contest with a 4-2 mark, having dropped its last contest, 88-79, at Marshall on Nov. 29. Eric Frederick had a game-high 26 points, shooting 8-of-15 from the field and 7-of-10 from the charity stripe. DeJuan Wright (18 points) and Phil Gary (12 points) also recorded double digits in scoring. Collectively, the team shot a 53.6 percent clip (30-of-56) from the field, but lost the rebounding battle, 34-30.
The Panthers are under the guidance of second-year coach Isiah Thomas, who's led the program to an 11-27 record. Last season, the Panthers finished with a 7-25 overall mark, going 4-14 in the Sun Belt. The team returns two of its three top scorers in preseason all-Sun Belt third team selection Marvin Roberts and Gary.
