
Women's Basketball Falls to Old Dominion 69-65

Norfolk, Va. - The University of Louisville women's basketball team fell 69-65 to Old Dominion on Friday evening at the Constant Convocation Center. Shoni Schimmel led four Cardinals in double figures with 19 points. Monique Reid was second in scoring with 16 points while Keshia Hines had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Jasmine Parker led the Lady Monarchs with 24 points.
The Lady Monarchs jumped out to an early 4-0 lead to start the game. Hines got the Cardinals started with back-to-back buckets to tie the game. ODU then took a four-point lead before sparking a 6-2 run by the Cardinals. Tia Gibbs' steal and layup at the 13:40 mark tied the game at 11. On the next possession, Reid scored to give the Cards their first lead of the game.
Becky Burke tied the game at 19 with just under 10 minutes left in the half. A steal by the Cardinals and back-to-back buckets by Reid gave the Cardinals a 23-19 lead. ODU's Parker hit a trey to cut the Louisville lead to one at the 7:35 mark. Parker converted on a three point play to give ODU a 25-23 lead with 6:13 remaining. Hines tied the score on the next possession. Both teams traded baskets to end the half tied at 35.
The second half began the way the first half ended with both teams trading baskets. Schimmel hit two foul shots to give the Cardinals a 41-39 lead with 17:24 remaining. The foul shots sparked an 8-3 run that was capped by a Burke three-pointer to take a 47-42 lead with 13:39 remaining. ODU scored on the next possession. Burke got a steal and a layup to push the lead to 51-44 with 12:19 left to play.
The Lady Monarchs went on an 11-0 run to take a 55-51 lead with 9:28 remaining in the game. Schimmel scored on back-to-back baskets for the Cardinals to cut the lead to one with 7:55 remaining. Gibbs hit a trey to give the Cardinals a 58-56 lead with 6:27 remaining. ODU tied the game up on the next possession. The lead changed hands several times until ODU took a 67-65 lead with three minutes remaining. Both teams missed baskets on the next few possessions.
Louisville had a chance to tie it with 47 seconds remaining but missed the front end of a one-and-one. ODU's Parker scored on the next possession and missed the foul shot for the three-point play to take a 69-65 lead with 21 seconds left. Louisville could not convert a shot in the final seconds.
Burke finished with 11 points, connecting on 3-of-6 from behind the arc. Both teams finished the game shooting 39.1 percent from the field. ODU shot 35.3 percent from behind the line while the Cardinals shot 23.8 percent. Louisville held a 51-39 rebounding advantage.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Monday, Nov. 29 as they travel to IPFW for a 7:00 p.m. game.
