
Women's Basketball Defeats IPFW 100-79

Fort Wayne, Ind. - The Louisville women's basketball team defeated IPFW 100-79 on Monday night at the Gates Sports Center. Six Cardinals scored in double figures with Sheronne Vails leading the way with 22 points. Anne Boese led the Mastodons with 19 points. It was a game of two halves as the Cardinals scored a season-high 58 points in the second half while giving up a season-high 54 in the second half to IPFW.
The Cardinals jumped out to a 16-0 lead to start the game. Louisville held IPFW without a field goal for the first 4:26 of the game. Chelsey Jackson broke the scoring drought with a three point play at the 15:34 mark. The Cardinals continued to hold the large lead behind 60.7 percent shooting from the field. Burke finished the first half with 13 points while Vails added 10 in the first half.
Louisville held IPFW to just 34.6 percent shooting from the field and 23.1 percent shooting from behind the arc in the first half. The Cardinals outrebounded the Mastodons 18-12 in the first half.
The second half was a scoring frenzy for both teams. The Cards started the second half with a 7-2 run to take a 51-27 lead with 18:12 remaining. The Mastodons then went on a 9-0 run to cut the lead to 13 with just over 15 minutes left to play. Shoni Schimmel broke the three minute drought for the Cardinals nailing a 3-pointer from the top of the key to put the Cards up 54-38. Her trey sparked an 8-2 Louisville run.
The Mastodons matched points with the Cardinals in the second half behind strong shooting from behind the arc. IPFW hit six consecutive 3-pointers to cut the led to 82-58 with just five minutes remaining.
The Cardinals finished the game shooting 67.8 percent from the field and 58.3 percent from behind the arc. The Mastodons shot 60 percent from behind the arc, finishing the game shooting 42.9 percent. They finished the game shooting 45 percent from the field. Louisville held a 34-26 rebounding advantage.
Schimmel finished with 15 points, Monique Reid and Becky Burke finished with 13 points, Tia Gibbs added 12 points and Keshia Hines finished with 10 points.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Thursday, Dec. 2 as they host Mississippi Valley State at 7:00 p.m. in the KFC Yum! Center.
