LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville men's basketball head coach Rick Pitino met with the media Wednesday afternoon at the Yum! Center to preview Saturday's contest against Marshall at the KFC Yum! Center. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m., ET for the Cardinals' third game of the Global Sports Shootout, which will be televised by WHAS-TV locally and Wazoo Sports statewide.
The Cardinals (3-0) enters Saturday's game following a 106-65 win over Chattanooga on Monday night at the KFC Yum! Center in their second game in the Global Sports Shootout. Preston Knowles scored 14 points and Peyton Siva, Kyle Kuric and Terrence Jennings added 13 points each in the win for Louisville. Rakeem Buckles, Mike Marra and Chris Smith also scored 11 points each for Louisville marking the third straight game the Cardinals have had at least four players in double figures. U of L led by 12 at the half and then put the game away with a 22-3 burst early in the second half fueled by Jennings and Buckles.
Marshall (3-1) enters the weekend following a 66-60 home win over Jackson State on Monday night. The Thundering Herd has four players averaging in double-figures in scoring, led by guard DeAndre Kane and forward Tirrell Baines at 13.8 points each. Baines also leads Marshall in rebounding at 6.3 per contest. Head coach Tim Herrion is in his first season with Marshall and in his 22nd season as a collegiate coach. From 2002-06, Herrion was the head coach at the College of Charleston where he posted an impressive 80-38 record
The Series - Louisville vs. Marshall
The Cardinals and Thundering Herd will meet on the hardwood for the 15th time with Louisville holding a 9-5 advantage overall in the series which dates back to 1941. U of L has won five straight and eight of the last nine in the series, however this is only the second meeting in 31 years between the two schools. The Cardinals are also 6-0 all-time at home against the Thundering Herd.
