Louisville Head Coach Rick Pitino
(Opening Statement)
"I thought Peyton [Siva] in the second half gave us a good lift. We did what we did the first two exhibition games, we callously handled the basketball and it affected us negatively. We had 19 turnovers because of it. We'll go to work, we have a lot to improve on. I'm glad we got the victory, but we have a lot to improve on to beat Chattanooga on Monday. "
(On reaching statistical goals)
"[We reached] about 50 percent. We're trying to get 90 percent efficiency on offensive rebounds. I'm sure we can make it, but tonight we got six out of 12. We wanted to shoot 50 percent, we wanted to get out on the break 25 times and we got 26. We lost the turnover battle. We wanted to shoot 50 percent from the field and we lost that."
(On having less turnovers as the game progressed)
"We did a little better. I thought Peyton [Siva] gave us a big lift and played good basketball down the stretch. We had an off night, an off game, but you have to give them credit for controlling the tempo of the game. We have to get Preston [Knowles] to play a great all-around game--great defense, great passing, great rebounding. If you keep looking to just shoot the ball, you're going to strike out. If you play a great all-around basketball game, you're going to score 20. We didn't play well, but that's a credit to them. We'll try to come back against Chattanooga."
(On what he said to the players during the game)
"I told them, just don't worry right now that you're not playing great, just win the game. You're going to have nights like this, just win the game. Pro coaching to college coaching, there's nights that you won't play well, but just win the game. We will make adjustments for the next game. We have one day to prepare for Chattanooga, and they're a team that plays excellent defense so we have to be ready for them."
Jackson State Head Coach Tevester Anderson
(Opening Statement)
"Well naturally they have a good team. They are probably a top 25 team. They didn't shoot it as well as they usually shoot it, but they are a good shooting team. They dictate tempo; that is one of Coach Pitino's things. We played pretty well tonight, but still didn't play as well as we could have played. Our best player is still getting into flow of things, Grant Maxey, he played about six or seven minutes. But give Louisville credit, they are a good team. They will have my top 25 vote and I'm probably going to vote for them this week, come Monday. We played a zone and that zone hurt them a little bit, but we got tired. If you work hard in the zone then you do well man-to-man, but you have to move from position to position. But I felt like a zone hurt them a little bit, but they made the adjustment in the zone to give them another run"
(On Jackson State's second half run)
"Well Grant Maxey got it started and Tyrone Hanson hit a three. Jenirro Bush also hit a couple of threes; he is our second best player. But those guys haven't been shooting very well this year. If we can get those guys shooting, this is going to be a good team. We aren't pleased with the way we played, but at least we will take it."
