
Softball Defeats Morehead 11-1 in Fall Season Finale

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The University of Louisville softball team wrapped up the fall season with a 11-1 win over Morehead State Friday evening at Ulmer Stadium. Freshman Maggie Ruckenbrod went 3 for 3 to lead the Cardinals as they pounded out 16 hits.
Louisville struck with five runs in the second. Maggie Ruckenbrod got things started with a base hit and was lifted for pinch runner Jennifer Esteban. Alicja Wolny followed with a walk and Katie Keller's single loaded the bases for Colby Wherry's two-run double. Katelyn Mann's RBI single plated Keller to make it a 3-0 game. Wherry and Mann came home on Hannah Kiyohara's to increase the lead to 5-0.
The Cards used four hits and two errors to tally three more runs in the third. Ruckenbrod singled, Wolny reached on a fielder's choice and Keller's hit loaded the bases. An error sent Ruckenbrod home and Mann registered a two-run double for an 8-0 lead.
Chelsea Bemis led off the fourth with a shot over the right centerfield fence to make it a 9-0.
The Eagles got on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth Amber Riddle and Kayla Brill followed with a walk. Kelsea Bullock's RBI single made it a 9-1 game.
Taner Fowler led off the sixth with a double, Chelsea Jordan singled and Chrisanna Roberts was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Sarah Anderson's RBI single to add another run.
The Cardinals tacked on a final run in the seventh when Ruckenbrod singled and Jordan Trimble entered the game as a pinch-runner and Chelsea Jordan single, an error on the play allowed Trimble to score for the 11-1 final.
Junior Tori Collins and freshman Caralisa Connell each had three strikeouts in the game. Kiyohara was 2 for 5 with three RBI, Jordan was 2 for 3 with a run, Keller was 2 for 4 with two runs, Wherry went 2 for 3 with a run and three RBI and Mann went 2 for 3 with three RBI and a run. The Cardinals finish the fall season with a 5-0 record.
