
Pitino Previews Sunday's Exhibition Against Northern Kentucky

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Louisville men's basketball head coach Rick Pitino and freshman center Gorgui Dieng met with the media on Thursday afternoon at the Yum! Center to preview Sunday's exhibition game against Northern Kentucky. The game, which will be televised by WHAS, is set for a 2:07 p.m. tip at the new KFC Yum! Center. It marks the Cardinals' first game against outside competition at the new venue.
Louisville showcased the arena in front of 21,218 fans on Oct. 24 with an intrasquad scrimmage, which the Red Team defeated the White Team, 125-112. The Red squad's Terrence Jennings led all scorers with 39 points on 15-of-22 shooting and 10 assists. Both teams finished shooting nearly 50 percent, as the Red Team recorded a 57.7 clip from the field, while the White Team registered a 49.4 percent mark. Preston Knowles led the White Team with 38 points and seven assists.
Northern Kentucky is under the guidance of coach Dave Bezold, who enters his seventh season at the helm of the program, carrying a 117-63 overall mark. NKU was picked to finish fourth in the Great Lakes Valley Conference's East Division after posting a 17-13 record last year. The squad's top returnees include Dennis Gagai (pronounced gay-guy), who connected on 56 3-pointers, and Tony Track, who led the GLVC in 3-point accuracy, hitting 52.1 percent of his 3-pointers.
The only time the two teams met was two years ago in an exhibition game on Nov. 8, 2008. Samardo Samuels recorded 29 points on 10-of-11 shooting to propel the Cardinals to an 84-69 victory. Edgar Sosa chipped in 18 points, and Earl Clark tallied eight points and 10 boards.
