- Cincinnati posts a 35-27 victory over Louisville, increasing its all-time lead in the series to 28-21-1.
- Louisville head coach Charlie Strong holds a 3-3 record at Louisville. He's 3-4 all-time as a head coach.
- Tonight's attendance of 55,106 is the third largest at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. Previous highs were accomplished earlier this year: 55,327 vs. Kentucky (Sept. 4) and 51,427 vs. Eastern Kentucky (Sept. 11).
- Coach Strong tabbed Doug Beaumont and Antwone Canady as today's game captains.
- Cincinnati won the coin toss and deferred to the second half.
- Darius Ashley made the first start of his career on defense.
- Greg Scruggs registered his first career interception with less than nine minutes to go in the first quarter. Scruggs' interception is the first by a defensive lineman since Elvis Dumervil picked one off on Oct. 8, 2005 against North Carolina.
- Before the end of the first quarter, Greg Scruggs recovered his second fumble of his career. The last Cardinal to record an interception and recover a fumble in the same game was Antoine Sharp, who accomplished the feat on Oct. 2, 2004, at home against East Carolina.
- Josh Chichester caught his sixth career touchdown on an 11-yard pass from Adam Froman with less than seven minutes left in the first quarter.
- Today's game is the first that Doug Beaumont hasn't started in which he played after making 27-straight starts.
- Doug Beaumont completed his second career pass to Adam Froman in the second quarter. He is 2-for-2 when throwing the ball.
- With his six-yard completion to Josh Bellamy at the 11:22 mark in the second quarter, Adam Froman reached the 200 career completion mark.
- Josh Bellamy registered his first carry as a Cardinal near the eight-minute mark in the second quarter. He rushed to the left side for a 12-yard gain.
- This is Louisville's third-straight game with at least 24 points in the first half.
- The last time the Louisville defense forced three turnovers was against Kentucky in 2009.
- Senior tight end Cameron Graham set a career high with five receptions in the game. His previous career-best was four at West Virginia last season.
- Darius Ashley recorded his second career pick early in the fourth quarter. He also led the team for the second-straight week in tackles, finishing the game with nine.
- Placekicker Chris Philpott attempted a career-high four field goals in the game, making two. All three of his misses this season have come from at least 40 yards out (Philpott missed two 40-yarders Friday night). He has made nine straight field goals inside 40 yards, last missing on a 31-yarder against Kansas State on Sept. 17, 2008.
- Nate Nord set career highs in receptions (2) and receiving yards (29).
- Sophomore wide receiver Andrell Smith set new career-bests with three catches and 59 receiving yards.
- The Cardinals rushed for 228 yards against the Bearcats on Friday, the sixth straight game Louisville has gone over 150 yards rushing. U of L's last longer streak was a 16-game stretch from Nov. 22, 2003 to Sept. 4, 2005. The 2004 team rushed for at least 172 yards in all 12 games (and over 200 yards in 11 of the 12).
Bilal Powell Notes
- Bilal Powell becomes only the second player since 1980 to reach the 800-yard rushing mark in six games. The only player to reach the mark previous to Powell since that time was Frank Moreau, who recorded 884 yards through six contests in 1999. The Lakeland, Fla., native has 898 rushing yards this season.
- Powell's 300th career carry went for seven yards. He recorded his third-straight, fifth-career 100-yard rushing game, finishing the contest with 209 yards.
- Powell carried the ball 85 yards to tie the game at 14 apiece; it is his third touchdown of 70 or more yards this season. The run also is the longest touchdown rush of his career, with his previous best was 80 yards. It is tied for the seventh longest rush from the line of scrimmage in school history.
- It's the first time since 1977 that a running back has had two rushing touchdowns of 80 yards or more.
- After his 85-yard first-half touchdown scamper, Powell now stands as the only player in the FBS with three runs of 70 yards or longer this season (he also had touchdown runs of 80 yards versus Kentucky and 74 yards against Memphis). Seven other FBS players have had two such runs thus far in 2010: Ronnie Hillman of San Diego State (75, 93), LaMichael James of Oregon (72, 76), Taylor Martinez of Nebraska (80, 80), Denard Robinson of Michigan (87, 72), Vai Taua of Nevada (72, 73), Tyrod Taylor of Virginia Tech (71, 72), and Chris Thompson of Florida State (83, 90). Each of those runs, except Taylor's 71-yard run, resulted in a touchdown.
- Entering the game, Powell had rushed for 313 yards and three touchdowns on his last 29 carries; 24 carries for 209 yards and two touchdowns tonight makes it 522 yards and five touchdowns on his last 53 rushes (9.85 per carry).
- With two rushing scores on the day, Powell has run for a score in each of U of L's first six games; the last Cardinal with a longer such streak was Michael Bush, who rushed for at least two touchdowns in each of his first nine games in 2005.
- With his 209-yard effort, Bilal Powell became just the second player in school history to rush for 150 yards or more in three-consecutive games. The other was Howard Stevens (Nov. 10-Nov. 24, 1973), who in 1971 ran for 183 yards against Tampa and followed that up with 158- and 260-yard games against Tulsa and Southern Illinois, respectively.
- Powell also tied the school record by recording his fourth 150-yard rushing game of the year. Stevens had four such games in 1971.
- The last player with back-to-back 175-yard rushing performances was Frank Moreau, who tallied 181 against Kentucky and 188 versus Chattanooga in 1999.
- With records only back to 1973, Bilal Powell is the first to reach the 200-yard mark in back-to-back games. He has tied the school record with the most career (two) 200-yard games.
