The University of Louisville softball team picked up two more wins Sunday, beating Bellarmine 11-1 and Morehead State 3-0 Sunday to finish the Louisville Fall Tournament with a perfect 4-0 record.
In the opening game against Bellarmine, the Cards pounded out 15 hits en route to an 11-1 win over the Knights.
Louisville struck early with a run in the first when Kristin Austin singled and came around to score on Chelsea Bemis' fielder's choice.
The Cards capitalized on six hits and an error to produce six runs in the third. The scoring started when Jennifer Esteban singled and moved to third when Austin reached on an error. A double steal sent Esteban home to make it a 2-0 game. Melissa Roth and Bemis delivered back-to-back doubles to increase the lead to 4-0. Katelyn Mann's sacrifice fly plated pinch-runner Chelsea Jordan. Esteban registered a two-run single to give the Cards a 7-0 lead.
Bellarmine's Jordan Basham led off the fifth with a solo shot over the left field fence to put the Knight's on the scoreboard.
Brittany York's two-run double highlighted a four-run sixth to give the Cardinals the 11-1 win.
Esteban, Bemis, Wolny and York each finished the game batting 2 for 3. Starter Kristen Wadwell got the win and did not allow a hit through four innings. Tori Collins allowed one earned run on three hits in two innings.
Amanda Meyer took the loss for the Knights surrendering seven runs, but only two earned, on 11 hits in four innings. Kristin Gramling gave up four unearned runs on four hits in two innings of relief.
In the game against Morehead, the Cards went ahead in the first inning when Esteban singled, moved to third on an error and came home on a hit by Bemis.
U of L added two insurance runs in the sixth when Alicja Wolny delivered a leadoff double and was lifted for pinch runner Tesha Paysen who took third on Mann's sacrifice bunt and crossed the plate on Austin's RBI single. Austin stole second and scored on Roth's double to give Louisville a 3-0 lead.
Wadwell picked up the win, holding the Eagles scoreless on one hit in three innings of relief. Starter Tori Collins combined on the shutout, giving up two hits in three innings of work.
Gjevre took the loss, giving up three runs, two earned on 10 hits and struck out five in six innings.
The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 3 with the alumnae game at 2 p.m. at Ulmer Stadium.
