Louisville, Ky. - - The University of Louisville football team had its final practice of the open date on Thursday afternoon, which ended with the first offense going against the first defense in a two-minute drill.
"I would say the defense kind of gained the upper hand today in the two-minute drill, said head coach Steve Kragthorpe. "We had some breakdowns in protection a couple times, but nothing that we can't fix. The offense got the better of the defense on Wednesday. We will get some of these things corrected on the practice field for Monday.
The Cardinals will lift on Friday, then have Saturday and Sunday off before returning to the practice field on Monday afternoon. The Cardinal assistant coaches spent all day Friday hitting the local high schools to get a jump on recruiting.
Defensive tackles Joe Townsend and Tyler Jessen were cleared for contact on Thursday, while tight end Nate Nord also returned to action. Wide receiver Trent Guy and offensive guard Mark Wetterer are slowed by injuries, but will be at full strength by next Saturday. The Cardinals are pretty healthy, except for freshmen Damian Copeland and Zed Evans, who are out for the year with injuries.
