
Fifth Ranked Cardinals Earn a Third Seed

Louisville, Ky. - The No. 5/7 Louisville women's basketball team earned their fifth consecutive and 13th overall bid to the 2009 NCAA Tournament. It is the first time in school history that the Cardinals have made five consecutive appearances. Louisville also earns their best seed at No. 3 in school history, topping last season's fourth seed.
The Cardinals finished the regular season second in the BIG EAST Conference, which earned a seven bids this. Louisville set a record for most wins in school history with an overall record of 29-4. The Cardinals also set a school record with a 14-2 record in the BIG EAST Conference. The Cardinals are led by seniors Angel McCoughtry and Candyce Bingham. McCoughtry leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 23.5 points per game and 9.3 rebounds. Bingham is second on the team in scoring and rebounding with 12.3 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.
Louisville is the No.3 seed in the Raleigh Region. The Cards will face the 14th seeded Liberty on Sunday, March 22 in Baton Rouge, La. for first round action at approximately 9:30 p.m. EST.
