Louisville is 108-5 over the last nine seasons when scoring 80 or more points, including 79-5 under head coach Rick Pitino and 9-0 this season.
Providence was on fire in the first half, connecting on 18-of-24 shots from the floor for an impressive 75.0 percent. Charlotte was the last team to connect on 70 percent or better shooting from the floor in a half when they connected on 75.9 percent of their shots in the second half on 2/11/01.
Senior Terrence Williams returned to the starting lineup in tonight's win over Providence. After being held to eight points combined in the last three games on just 2-of-16 shooting from the floor, Williams responded with 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor, including 2-of-4 from behind the arc. He also added six rebounds and eight assists.
After shooting 75.0 percent in the first half, the Cardinals held Providence to just 9-of-30 (30.0) shooting from the floor in the second half, as the Cardinals out-scored the Friars, 49-30.
With tonight's win over Providence, the Cardinals ran their record to 20-5, giving them 20 wins for the seventh straight season. Head coach Rick Pitino has won at least 20 games for the 18th time in his career.
Junior Earl Clark recorded his 22nd double-double and 12th this season with his 13 points and 10 rebounds tonight in the win over Providence. It was Clark's second straight double-double after getting 12 points and 11 rebounds versus DePaul on Sunday. It was also his 11th double-double in his last 22 games. He has scored in double figures in 49 games in his career.
Junior Earl Clark recorded seven more assists in tonight's win over Providence, giving him 15 helpers in the last two games. As a team, the Cardinals have totaled 49 assists and just 21 turnovers in the last two games.
With two three-pointers today versus Providence, junior Jerry Smith moved into eighth-place all by himself in school history for three-pointers in school history with 158.
The Cardinals shot 54.7 percent from the floor, giving them back-to-back contests where they shot 50.0 percent or better from the floor. It's the seventh time the Cards' hit better than 50.0 percent in a game this season.
The Cardinals had six players score in double figures in tonight's win over Providence. It's the first time the Cardinals had that many scorers in double figures since having seven players score in double digits on 11/17/07 against Hartford.
