LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Louisville men's basketball head coach Rick Pitino and sophomore guard Kyle Kuric met with members of the media on Saturday at the Yum! Center to preview Sunday's game against Radford. The Cards and Highlanders will tip off at 1:07 p.m. ET at Freedom Hall and the game will be televised by WHAS-TV in Louisville.
U of L will play its seventh of eight straight games at home. Louisville won its third straight with an 84-69 victory over Louisiana Lafayette last Wednesday as the Cardinals held decisive margins in rebounding (48-30) and turnovers (18-10). Samardo Samuels led the way with career highs of 29 points and 15 rebounds, Kyle Kuric provided 13 points and seven rebounds off the bench.
Radford (5-4) has won three of its last five games, but fell 70-68 to William and Mary in its last outing on Tuesday following a nine-day break. The Highlanders feature the nation's leading rebounder in Art Parakhouski, a 6-11 center from Minsk, Belarus who averages 22.7 points and 14.0 rebounds. A dozen NBA scouts have reserved seats for Sunday's game to primarily watch Parakhouski in action. Located in Radford, Va., the Highlanders were the 2009 Big South Conference Champions and an NCAA Tournament participant. Radford is no. 85 in the ratings percentage index (RPI) and is no. 158 in the Sagarin Ratings through games of Dec. 24.
This is the first meeting between the two schools. Radford is just the third Big South Conference for that the Cardinals have ever faced, having previously beaten UNC Asheville and VMI.
